Most spiders around a Gold Coast home are harmless and useful. The ones that are not — redbacks in the shed, funnel-webs in the garden — are worth treating properly, and we will tell you which is which.

Which ones actually matter
- Redbacks sit under outdoor furniture, in letterboxes, in the lip of a trailer and down the back of the shed. Their bite needs medical attention, so these are the ones we prioritise.
- Huntsmen are large, fast and startling, and they eat other pests. They do not need treatment unless you want them gone.
- Webbing spiders — black house, grey house — build the messy webs under eaves, in window corners and around the meter box.
- Ground-dwellers, including funnel-webs, live in burrows in damp, shaded parts of the garden.
Treat the webbing and the harbourage
- External eaves, window frames, fence lines, sheds and the places redbacks favour, treated in one low-chemical application.
- Existing webbing knocked down so you can see straight away whether new activity is appearing.
- Internal treatment where spiders are coming inside, placed along entry routes rather than sprayed through living areas.
- If covered pests return to internal areas within 12 months, we re-treat at no charge.
We do not treat the whole garden. Spiders eat the insects you like even less. The aim is to clear the ones near the house and the ones that can hurt someone, not to sterilise the yard.
What helps
- Point out where you have seen redbacks. Under the outdoor setting and around the shed are the usual two.
- Pull toys, bikes and pet bedding away from external walls so the technician can treat behind them.
- Leave the webbing up until we arrive — it shows where the activity is.
Before you call
Will it hurt the huntsman that lives behind our curtain?
A general treatment is not selective, so it will affect spiders it reaches. If you want the huntsmen left alone, say so when you book and we will keep the internal work to the areas that need it.
How long before the webs stop coming back?
Treated eaves and window frames usually stay clear for months. New webs appearing within a week or two after treatment normally means spiders moving in from beyond the treated zone, which settles down.
